Type K thermocouple wire, insulated with Brown Double jacket high temperature HG/HG Glass coating.

The Thermocouple wire is a consumable item, which is used to convert the thermal energy at the hot junction of the thermocouple to an electrical mV signal which can then be used by temperature control and recording instruments to accurately control and record the temperature of the item being heat treated. When Required for Post Weld Heat Treating, second set of wires acts as a back up set of wires.

Recommended maximum temperature 800°C.

The Thermocouple wire is attached directly to the workpiece using the ‘Thermocouple Attachment Unit’ stock reference:

CREATING A THERMOCOUPLE

Thermocouple wire – Four strands. White with red tracer/White with yellow tracer, Red / Yellow. Pull sheathing back
Cut ends with pliers
Clean metal area with file – both magnet area and Thermocouple area
Place thermocouple in middle of the pad, usually get a spec to follow
Put the wire perpendicular to metal or pipe.
Fire TAU to create thermocouple
All four wires need to attach to the pipe. (creates puddle of metal to attach to)
Wrap pipe. Example 7″ diameter pipe. We used CP29. Wrapped around double over.
Flexible ceramic Heater covers 120 square inches
Hold in place use fibre tape.
. Then wrap stainless steel banding around heaters. – SS banding 200 feet (1/2″ x .02 # 26505) qty = 2— feet
. Need crimper and bands. Tighten around heater so it is tight on pad.
. Take off the tape.
Hook up the cables. – machine – red on top row , black bottom row 42 volts
Heater – hook up red and black
Match labels – both ends
Very important – look after cable s- cable rack – KASI – 254 match KASI 254
Insulation – coverage 4″ on either side
Double wrap parts using Tie wire over the insulation.
Cold tail – keep white beads away from insulation – wire different from this point

NOTE: YELLOW AND RED WIRE SHOULD BE PLACED NO MORE THAN 1/8” TO 1/4” APART FOR ACCUARTE READING .
